We are now offering boarding at First Proper Farm!
We are a smaller, family run facility specializing in hands-on personal care of all of the horses residing on the farm. Since we live on the farm, we are able to keep a close watch on the horses and care for them as individuals. Horses are checked several times throughout the day (not just when they are turned out or brought in) and again in the evening before we head to bed. We understand that not every horse is the same and some horses require specialized care. We are experienced with handling all ages from weanlings to senior citizens. Should you wish to board a weanling or yearling with us, we require that the individual is able to be lead in hand.
All horses are fed twice a day 11% sweet feed, high quality timothy hay and owner provided supplements. Customized feeding for young stock, senior citizens or horses needing a few extra pounds is available. Horses are turned out in smaller groups of 2-4 and have access to roundbales while on turnout. We personality match our groups and understand that every horse is different and not all horses get along. Private turnouts are also available. We follow a 12/12 turnout schedule with horses turned out during the day and in at night in the colder months and in during the day and out at night during the warmer months. Should you wish your horse to be blanketed, we will be happy to do this for you, however, we require that owners provide two appropriately sized blankets for their horse.
We also offer layups for horses that require extended stall rest and limited to no turnout. For these individuals we have oversize stalls available.
Should you choose not to use the farms regular vet or farrier and would prefer to use your own, a holding fee will apply.
About our facility...
We are located on 12 acres in Churchville, MD. We currently have 16 matted stalls, a 30' roundpen , a 60' roundpen & two outdoor riding rings. The smaller ring is 60 x 80 and the larger ring is 80 x 100. Both rings have stone dust footing.
